Spider-Man 2099 is a sequel to the Spider-Man comic series published in 1992 by Peter David and Rick Leonardi in Marvel Comics. As the name suggests, the action takes place in the year 2099 and is only loosely linked to the original series. In the year 2099, large corporations such as Alchemax and Stark-Fujikawa dominate the political and economic events in the USA. The time of superheroes such as Spider-Man or the Avengers is a thing of the past. Superheroes only live on in people's memories, and a religious personality cult has developed around Thor, whose followers are called "Thorites".
